WELCOME TO MICRO-NEEDLING
What is micro-needling and what is all the fuzz about it?
Micro-needling, as the name specifies, is a procedure using ultrafine, shallow needles, that gently puncture your skin's surface, causing a 'micro injury' or tiny wounds. As your skin heals from these wounds, it prompts skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production, filling in fine lines, plumping the skin and contributing to younger looking skin. Surface scarring is eliminated and fine wrinkles are softened, if not erased. It is virtually painless and an incredible effective way to stop aging before it even starts!
Simply put, it’s the only dermatology treatment that tightens your skin while also reducing your wrinkles at the same time, leaving skin more plump and even reducing acne scars. It may also reverse sun-damage and discoloration, including hyperpigmentation.
This treatment is a less invasive, more holistic, Botox or Laser alternative for restoring smooth, toned skin.
What to Expect
Before the procedure, our Aesthetician will place a topical numbing cream on the area to be treated. Then the micro-needling device, outfitted with a cluster of needles, delivers several dozen pricks about three millimeters deep into your skin.
The needles stimulate your skin into creating new collagen and hyaluronic acid, which help repair tissue and hydrate your skin, respectively. During the session, a Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid Serum is gently spread on the skin allowing for deeper penetration of nutrients and absorption. One session is about 45-60 minutes, and a minimum of three sessions is recommended for optimal results.
Although the micro-needling procedure is extremely safe, some mild side effects are to be expected. Many patients report a slightly uncomfortable yet tolerable experience. Redness and swelling around the treated site is not unexpected. Your face might also feel warm, as if you have a sunburn.
Because there is no permanent damage to the skin, unlike other treatments such as chemical peels and dermabrasion, the treatment can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks.
For many women, microneedling has been a game-changer. Yet, as with any hot trend, there is still misinformation out there and it is best to be well informed.
At-Home Microneedling Does Not Deliver the Same Anti-Aging Benefits
At-home micro-needle rollers are often claimed to be as effective as the state-of-the-art versions used by dermatologists and Aestheticians.
The truth is at-home micro-needling procedures use a lesser-quality device, therefore, you don’t get the same beautiful results. The results and the experience is never the same. Aestheticians utilize top-of-the-line medical grade versions that aren’t safe or acceptable in the hands of an untrained practitioner.
Micro-needling Does NOT Leave Holes in Your Skin
Microneedling does create controlled injuries in the skin, but it does not leave your face resembling an aerated front lawn. The needle punctures are so small that, unaided, no one can see them, even close up.
The effect, however, is skin is typically red for the first day or two after treatment, but the redness is typically mild. There is little or no discomfort after the procedure and patients typically are able to return to regular activities within a day. Makeup may be applied 24 hours after the procedure, if necessary.
The purpose of creating these microscopic punctures is to stir collagen growth so you heal faster and look more youthful, which is why you’re considering the procedure in the first place!
Safe and Effective for Areas Around Your Eyes and Lips
Another reason to trust microneedling treatment, only in the hands of an expert practitioner, is that it’s fabulous for these delicate areas. As a result, several microneedling tools come equipped with special rollers for use in the following senstive areas:
Your upper eyelid
The eyelashes on your lower eyelid
Around the side of your nose
Your upper lip
Not Just Anti-Aging Benefits
It’s true that the majority of patients seek microneedling RF treatment for its anti-aging benefits like smooth, taut skin and a less wrinkled appearance, but it also corrects scarring due to acne. The collagen that the procedure creates helps fade your scarring. The result is the restoration of your skin, for a flawless, more youthful you!
WHO IS IT FOR?
Microneedling is appropriate for nearly any skin type and tone except for people with irritated skin, active acne, eczema, psoriasis or other chronic skin conditions. The procedure addresses the following issues:
Fine lines and facial wrinkles
Reduces visible scars, scars from acne, chicken pox, and stretch marks.
Tightens and firms loose skin
Irregular skin texture and discoloration.
Prevents new fine lines and wrinkles from forming
Shrinks pore size
Most patients will achieve full results with 2-3 treatment sessions, spaced about four weeks apart. Results won't be shown until the new collagen has time to grow, which can take up to 6 weeks. The number of treatments will depend on how well the patient responds to the treatment and the severity of the skin issues to be addressed.
Skin is typically red for the first day or two after treatment, but the redness is typically mild and much less than is often seen with laser procedures. There is little or no discomfort after the procedure and patients typically are able to return to regular activities within a day. Makeup can be applied 24 hours after the procedure to mask any residual redness.
